“Is that what it feels like?”
Zhara’s heart stopped. “What what feels like?” Love? It had, when she’d experienced it before.
“The electricity.” Mrs. Norcross nodded at the apparatus in her line of sight. “Like the shock you get on a dry winter’s day?”
Was that how it had been on her side? For Zhara, it had been more of a lightning strike of recognition. A burst of yearning.
“It can,” she said, trying to regain her composure and sound professional. “For the treatment you’ve been prescribed, it should feel like a strong tingle. If you feel discomfort, I will turn the level down. Your energy has been depleted over time. The electricity is meant to restore it, not demand exertion from nerves that are already overwrought.”
